The MF Lightning is one of those once-in-a-lifetime boards that earns a permanent place in the rack. Born from Mick Fanning’s original CT-winning DNA model, it keeps the same proven foundation but has been fine-tuned for more everyday spark. Mick worked closely with Darren post-retirement to create a faster, sharper version that thrives in smaller, weaker surf, but still holds its own when things get bigger but lack push.Quick Size ReferenceMick, currently weighs 80kg and is 5’ 10”, typically rides a 5′ 10″ Lightning for 1-4ft Snapper, D’Bah, Lowers, ect. We recommend you order this board the same length as your standard performance short board.

THE DETAILS
The Lightning is still in the MF family, but every tweak was made to add speed and precisions without losing control.
Rocker: Same tail rocker as the DNA, but straightened between the feet for more speed. Increased nose lift to fit tight in the pocket.
Concave: Flatter under the front foot for instant acceleration; deep single concave between the fins for extra lift and speed.
Outline: Narrower squash tail with no hip for added control; nose slightly narrower with extra flip.
Foam & Rails: Flattened deck to add foam under the chest; dropped rails for sensitivity
Fin Placement: Rear fin moved forward 1/8″ for a tighter turning radius in smaller waves.
HOW IT SURFS
The MF Lightning feels fast, sharp and lively underfoot where it generates instant speed and holds in through turns without washing speed off. It thrives in weaker to medium waves where that extra ‘get up and go’ makes all the difference, staying reactive and precise in the pocket for crips arcs and tight wraps. Thanks to the narrower tail and refined rails, it maintains control even at high speeds, giving you the confidence to push harder in smaller or softer conditions.
